how to change model color

My model color changed from an orange (which it has always been) to a dark blue and I can't see detail. I need to chg it back.
I have tried changing the model color under preferences but it does not - it is also not showing the same color so I guess that is for something else. If I change the selection box color, that changes.
SO where do I chg the model color?
